Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month around Atlanta

Atlanta celebrates diversity every single day, and during Hispanic Heritage Month, we go big. Throughout the month, communities and businesses around Atlanta celebrate the contributions of the Hispanic culture to the United States and our very own city. Here are a few options to celebrate all month long.

Estamos Aqui Festival

Celebrate Latinidad by eating, dancing, singing and enjoying the richness of Hispanic culture at the annual Estamos Aqui Festival. Hosted by Latino Community Fund Georgia, the free-entry celebration will take place at the Historic Old Fourth Ward Park on Sept. 7. Shop from Latin vendors, participate in art activations, connect with local organizations and dance to the beat of a diversity of Latin sounds.

When: Sept. 7 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Atlanta United Latin Heritage Night

Enjoy Latin Heritage Night rooting for Atlanta United at Mercedes-Benz Stadium as the team faces Nashville on Saturday, Sept. 14. Take advantage of the Latin Heritage Night tickets package and get a themed blanket. Check out atlutd.com for details.

Latinx Art Exhibition

Check out the 4th Annual Invitational Art Exhibition, “reflections:reflexiones” where artists explore, reflect and honor their experience of cultural legacy. The juried exhibition celebrates and showcases the rick and diverse heritage of Latinx and Hispanic culture. The exhibit is on view daily September 20 through October 20 in the Decatur Arts Alliance Gallery in Decatur.

When: September 15 through October 13

Fiestas Patrias Celebration

iVIVA MÉXICO! Plaza Fiesta is the official site for the Mexican Consulate’s “El Grito – Mexican Independence Celebration”. The celebration is a massive festival where music, food and vendors are at the forefront. Entry is free and for the whole family.

When: Sept. 15 from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Noche Mexicana

Celebrating Mexican Independence Day, Plaza las Americas – a Latino-themed shopping center in Gwinnett, is hosting a special celebration with mariachi, antojitos (Mexican street food), and activities for all age groups in the family.

When: Sept. 15 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Where: Plaza las Americas, 733 Pleasant Hill Rd. NW in Lilburn

Salvadorian Independence Festival

Plaza de las Americas welcomes all to celebrate Salvadorian Independence Day with delicious food and vendors. You can enjoy this free family festival and learn more about the Salvadorian culture.

When: Sept. 15 at 10 a.m.
Where: Plaza las Americas, 733 Pleasant Hill Rd. NW in Lilburn

Maya Poetry

Join The Michael C. Carlos Museum and Emil’Keme (K’iche’ Maya Nation) for a discussion around a collection of ancient and contemporary Maya poetry. Participants will read from the Popol Vuh, works by renowned authors like Luis de Lion, Francisco Morales Santos, Maya Cu Cho and Daniel Caño, among other Mayan authors. Fee entry is $20 for members and $30 for nonmembers of the museum, and the entry cost includes a physical copy of all reading selections. Space is limited and registration is required. The 50 Most Influential Latinos in Georgia

The Georgia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce honors the 50 Most Influential Latinos in Georgia at an annual awards ceremony. This event highlights the character, impact and connectivity these self-motivated leaders bring to various communities in Georgia. Tickets can be bought online at the GHCC website.

When: Sept. 20 at 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Where: Truist Park

Placita Latina Decatur: Salsa on the Square

Show off your moves with an evening of salsa. The event begins with live salsa band performances and dance instructors available to help you find your footing. Experience the irresistible sounds of salsa on the square.

When the sun comes down, you can keep the party moving with DJ La Superior of La Choloteca.

When: Sept. 21 from 4 to 10:30 p.m.

Oye! Fest

A day filled with music, art installations, food and interactive experiences in the heart of Atlanta in Old Fourth Ward. Celebrate the diversity of Latin music with Latin artists from all over the country who bring tunes from rock to techno, reggaeton, Caribbean tunes and more. Support local Latinx-owned businesses and artists while having a good time. Buy your tickets online weeks before the event and get access to an array of events happening prior to the big festival, including nightlife, dance parties and panels.

When: Oct. 6 from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Georgia Latino International Film Festival

Support the work of numerous Latino artists and films in this Latino-curated festival. Viewers have the opportunity to see the positive result of the demand for more quality Latino films in Atlanta. This festival also features opportunities for audiences to participate in discussions with directors and casts at the screenings. 

When: Sept. 26 through Sept. 29
Where: Gas South Convention Center and other venues.

Los Bravos Night

Experience the impact of the Hispanic and Latino community in Braves country and beyond. Los Bravos night celebrates culture through a Latin music performance on the Georgia Power Pavilion, an on-field presentation recognizing Latin Braves players and coaches, and, of course, merchandise.

When: Sept. 25 at 7:20 p.m.
